Chicago Department Of Aviation Issues RFP For Solar Project At O'Hare International Airport

| The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a ground-mounted solar energy system at O'Hare International Airport. The CDA is seeking a developer to install and operate up to 52 acres of ground-mounted solar panels on up to seven different sites on O'Hare property that are suitable for such development. The development would be the largest solar power source for O'Hare, but not the first. The airport installed 10 solar thermal collectors in 2006 on one of its Airport Rescue Fire Fighting stations, which heat water for the building. The successful RFP respondent would be responsible for the installation and materials costs, utilities and taxes and annual land-lease payments to the CDA, and would also enter into a power purchase agreement with the CDA to allow the CDA to purchase the energy generated by the system. Potential respondents have 60 days to submit responses to the RFP. After a thorough and extensive vetting process, the recommended proposals will be forwarded to the Chicago City Council’s Aviation Committee and, ultimately, to the full City Council for approval.
