The Municipal Light Commission in West Boylston, Mass., is planning to install a $2.4 million, 359 kW solar array in the spring.
The Worcester Business Journal reports that the proposed array will be located on town-owned property and is expected to produce 440,000 kWh annually. The commission requires approval from the local Zoning Board of Appeals before the installation can begin. The commission adds that it will purchase its solar equipment from a state-based company, Evergreen Solar, in Marlborough.
"The Light Commission's philosophy is to do whatever we can to lessen our dependency on foreign oil, reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible and explore green energy," says H. Bradford White, manager of the town’s electric utility.
